A to-do widget for your Windows desktop

The Windows 11 widget panel only appears when you open it, and sticky notes don't track due dates. A desktop widget keeps today's tasks in view.

PineTodo has a small desktop widget: a compact, translucent card that sits above your other windows. It lists up to three tasks with a "+N more" line for the rest, and lets you tick them off in place. It works on Windows 10 as well as 11.

What the widget does

Turning it on

  1. Open PineTodo, then Settings, then the Behaviour section.
  2. Set Desktop widget to Show today's tasks or Always on top. Off hides it.
  3. Drag the card where you want it. The arrow button on the card opens the full app.

The widget reads the same local data as the app, so ticks land instantly in your Today list, in the calendar, and in your streak. Repeating chores roll forward on schedule, exactly as recurring tasks do in the main window.

Try it on your own tasks. Free · Windows 10 & 11 · about 147 MB · no account.

Installs to your user folder. No administrator rights needed.

Frequently asked questions

Does the widget work on Windows 10?

Yes. PineTodo draws its own widget, so it looks the same on Windows 10 and Windows 11 and does not depend on the Windows 11 widget panel.

Can the widget stay on the desktop permanently?

Yes. In Settings, Behaviour, set Desktop widget to Always on top. The card then keeps all your open tasks in view, and the setting is kept between restarts. In Show today's tasks mode it appears only while something is due today.

Does the widget need PineTodo to be running?

Yes. The widget is part of the app, not a separate program. Closing the main window keeps PineTodo in the tray, and the widget stays. Quitting from the tray menu closes it. Turn on Start with Windows if you want the widget after you sign in.
